Invisalign® — Leaving the Metal-Mouth Behind
The adolescent memories of traditional metal braces seem an inherent part of our society. Many of us remember the pain of braces tightened, the annoyance of the little rubber bands, the scolding from doctors after eating hard or sticky foods. How about the embarrassment on school picture day?
Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable trays to move your teeth into an optimal position. Maintenance and, of course, aesthetics are now a breeze.
If this sounds like a godsend for dental patients, it’s because it is. There have been over 1 million Invisalign® users, and more and more patients are discovering the easier way to a beautiful smile. Whether the affliction is crowded teeth, those too far apart, a cross bite, an overbite or an under bite, people have enjoyed the discreetness and convenience of this treatment. The Invisalign® process is easy, right from the beginning. First, you have an initial consultation with your dentist. This is where you discuss your goals and concerns for treatment. If Dr. Gerber feels your goal is attainable with Invisalign®, a detailed treatment plan will be created, followed by impressions and pictures of your teeth.
These impressions will allow Dr. Gerber to create a 3-D image of your mouth. Together you can view what your teeth will look like before treatment, during the process, and after completion when you can be proud of your smile again. Once the customized aligners are created, you’re off and running into a straighter, more attractive smile! Most adults are done with treatment in about a year! Every two weeks or so, the aligners are adjusted to allow for the most efficient results – ones you’ll be able to see. While you should wear them at all times, the aligners are easily removable. Instead of the hassle of metal braces, with food being easily stuck in your brackets and wires, Invisalign® trays simply come out when you’re eating or drinking. And you can easily wash them when needed!

Perhaps the best part (aside from the brief treatment time) is how Invisalign® looks. Since the trays are comprised of clear plastic, no one will know you’re undergoing treatment unless you tell them. You don’t have to hold back smiling, laughing, or anything else with Invisalign®. And in a matter of months, you’ll be done!
